Red-M enables instant Bluetooth networking with new 1050AP smart access point

The 1050AP builds on Red-M’s recently announced Genos wirelessware architecture to bring advanced networking capabilities to Bluetooth users.

Wexham Springs, UK (October 31, 2001) – Red-M™, a pioneer in advanced wireless networking solutions, today announces the launch of its 1050AP smart access point. Building on Red-M’s award winning 3000AS access server and 1000AP access point, the Red-M 1050AP provides rapid, simple and reliable mobile access to any corporate LAN from Bluetooth enabled devices, allowing users to benefit from a wireless network in a localized area.

The 1050AP access point is an excellent entry point to Bluetooth networking. It enables the creation of a Bluetooth network in any area in which there is an existing corporate LAN for the delivery of next generation mobile services and provides increased access for users to information, across a wide range of applications. The 1050AP incorporates elements of Red-M’s Genos™ wirelessware technology to provide security and encryption protection for the network and the interface to control users access rights in standalone applications.

The 1050AP is future proofed as it can also operate in larger networks, controlled and managed by a central Red-M Genos wirelessware server.

Jan Ten Sythoff, Bluetooth Industry Analyst at Frost and Sullivan, comments, “The addition of a 1050AP will enable people to access information wherever they choose. Being able to synchronize email or check on the latest information, whilst not being tied to a desk, makes perfect sense for working in the 21st century. It also keeps peoples’ options open as they can trial Bluetooth with a single 1050AP, then move to a larger installation of several 1050AP’s, and then a full roll out of wireless infrastructure including 1050AP’s, 1000AP’s and 3000AS access servers.”

Simon Gawne, Vice-President and Co-Founder of Red-M explains, “Red-M’s mantra has remained consistent since day one, to lead the wireless communications industry in every respect, particularly in terms of innovation. Red-M has firmly stamped its credentials upon the market over the past 18 months with a number of groundbreaking products and technologies – the 1050AP access point product strictly adheres to our focus on innovation.”

Red-M’s 1050AP smart access point is available at a suggested retail price of $495, with the company starting shipments to initial customers in early November.
