December 12, 2001
Stonestreet One, a leading Kentucky-based provider of Bluetooth hardware,
software, and engineering services, and NewLogic Technologies, a leading
provider of intellectual property (IP) and IC design services, today announced
an agreement which will benefit customers seeking embedded Bluetooth solutions.
The companies will offer a combination of Stonestreet Ones upper layer
Bluetooth protocol stack, Bluetopia and NewLogics BOOST Bluetooth
baseband processor, with an interface at the host controller interface (HCI)
level. The companies plan to offer a fully integrated BOOST and Bluetopia
solution, thereby eliminating the need for an external host processor.
Both companies products have been listed with the Bluetooth Special Interest
Group (SIG) qualifying body. Bluetopia, which implements the Bluetooth
protocols above the HCI and aids developers in creating Bluetooth compliant
applications, runs on a variety of operating systems and microprocessor
architectures including Intel, Hitachi, Mitsubishi, ARM, and DSPs. The complete
BOOST IP family includes a Bluetooth baseband processor, a Bluetooth software
protocol stack and a Bluetooth CMOS radio core. These IP elements, when combined
with a suitable microcontroller core, permit the implementation of single chip
Bluetooth solutions using industry standard CMOS process technologies. A variety
of development platforms and tools are also offered.
We are striving every day to make Bluetooth solutions smaller, less expensive
and with lower power requirements, said Tim Reilly, founder and chief
technology officer of Stonestreet One. So far, our testing has indicated good
interoperability with NewLogics technology and we are excited about what this
relationship might produce for our customers.
A partnership with Stonestreet One will further enhance software and
applications support to existing and future Bluetooth intellectual property
solution customers, said Hans-Peter Metzler, president and CEO of NewLogic
Technologies. Stonestreet Ones Bluetooth applications expertise directly
complements our core technology offerings and will give customers ready access
to embedded plug and play Bluetooth solutions, he added.
Bluetooth, a wireless technology, developed by a group of leading computer,
telecommunications, and semiconductor companies, provides an open standard for
short-range communications. Designed to enable wireless transmission of
data and voice, Bluetooth wireless technology eliminates the need for cables
between electronic devices by utilizing a small, low-cost, low-power radio link.
