TDK Systems sets the corporate standard for Bluetooth with the Compaq iPAQ
TDK Systems Europe has unveiled its Bluetooth enabler for the Compaq iPAQ, one of the most popular PDAs amongst business users.

‘bluePAQ’ is fitted to the Compaq iPAQ as a jacket and is the latest in TDK Systems’ ‘Go Blue’ range of Bluetooth products. It uses the Bluetooth wireless standard to add new communication capabilities to iPAQ handhelds. Users can browse their email, Web sites, Intranets and access their desktop, regardless of their location. In addition, bluePAQ enables wireless communication with mobile phones, laptops, PCs, PDAs and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.

bluePAQ is simple to operate and all Bluetooth drivers reside in the jacket, which allows automatic loading every time it is fitted to the iPAQ. It is extremely light (only 53g), does not require additional batteries and has low power consumption, conserving the iPAQ’s battery life. It also benefits from a compact flash card slot, allowing additional memory capacity for data storage or simultaneous use of other peripheral devices.

"We believe Bluetooth should be a solution, not just another technology," said Nick Hunn, managing director at TDK Systems. "By applying this philosophy, we’ve made it possible for corporate users or network operators to load installation files with the drivers, so the Bluetooth connection is set up the first time bluePAQ is used. This puts the IT manager back in control of mobile wireless devices."

bluePAQ profiles include dial-up networking, serial port, object push and LAN Access. The device complies with the version 1.1 Bluetooth standard, ensuring interoperability with other devices at data transfer rates of up to 700kbps.

bluePAQ will ship in Europe and the USA from the end of February 2002. The suggested retail price is 169 or 273 euros. bluePAQ does not require any additional licences or subscriptions.
